I became a doula because I want to support you while you discover what you are capable of. I want you, momma, to know that I believe in you, and that I am for the birth that you have decided is best for you. My hope is that you and your partner feel covered and encouraged if variations or complications arise that mean a deviation from the original plan. I hope for you to know that someone will walk with you through the unpredictable adventure of birth simply because you are worth being there for.

The women who attended me in both my labors have had a huge impact on me. From the nurse who firmly encouraged me during my first labor, to the Midwives who held my feet and caught my baby in my second. Even the support I received from our 4½ year old daughter while I labored with her little sister is forever in my heart.

I am so thankful for my husband and how he never left my side during both labors. He let me grab at his chest and never stopped praying for me and praising me. I wouldn’t want to do labor without him there…

But there is something so settling and assuring to be attended by someone who really knows the intensity of labor. The nurse who said “I’ve done this, and you can too” and even just knowing that my mom was in the house during my second labor, having had 5 herself. She knows. My midwife knows. My daughter at my side is evidence that I have done this before...

To witness you and baby “meet”, to watch husbands beam with pride at the strength of their wife, to see those tiny eyes inspect their new world…These beautiful moments are treasures and it is an honor and a spectacular joy to be part of this world changing experience for women and their partners.
